    What does shibari bondage mean?

     

    Shibari comes from Japan and basically means “tie up”. That is why it is often called Japanese bondage. However, shibari is much more about the art of the bond itself than exercising power and dominance. While pure bondage is clearly about establishing who is the top and who is the bottom, in shibari it is about the art of the bond itself. For the person tying the bonds, the satisfaction is usually in seeing the person lying before them, artistically tied up and unable to move.
